Serenity Springs Sanctuary
is located on 25 heavily wooded, hilly acres in Montague County at 2162 Merritt Road, Forestburg, TX 76239-3331. The area is steeped in old west history. There were altercations between Indians and settlers, stagecoach routes, outlaw camps, cotton gins, and many more interesting historical places and events in this area.

Serenity Springs Sanctuary relies on donations for its operation, 100% of all donations are allocated for the direct care of the animals. At any given time there are approximately 150 animals here at the sancutary. It is a solo operation and there are no paid staff members. Donations are tax deductible!

While there are dogs, cats, horses, goats and birds at the sanctuary, it is primarily for porcine... especially Pot-Bellied Pigs. There are at least 100 pigs in residence at any given time! They come in all sizes, shapes, ages, colors -- each with their own story. The pigs live in "family" groups from 3 pigs per group up to 30 per group. Shelters and watering tanks are provied for each group. Lots of hay in the winter and lots of water in the summer.

All of the animals are available for sponsorship. It is very important that each animal has a sponsor as it ensures that the needs of the animals are met. I have some very special animals here that would love to have their own caring person.. You will receive a "certificate of sponsorship", updates and your name beside the animal of you choice. You are welcome to visit at any time.

There is an on-going open-door policy at the Sanctuary, and all are welcome to call for directions if you are going to be in the area and would like to visit us. We love visitors!!! Serenity Springs is also involved in networking for the rescue of all species of animals. All requests for placements will be networked with the appropriate rescue operations that are "no-kill" if the animals cannot be placed here.

PERSONAL STATEMENT FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

In all honesty, there are times when I wonder why I ever got involved in the rescue of animals. There are days when I wonder if I can continue. Even when I don't feel very good, the animals are still foremost on my mind, and I know I must be there for them. My one and only vacation in the last 16 years was the two days spent in the hospital having a stent implanted to make sure I could continue my work. Some days I need more time than is available, as the work never ceases. It's not just about feeding, watering and providing a clean environment. It's about interacting with them, so they have direct contact with someone and know that they are loved. The latter is so very important! Everything I do revolves around them, and sometimes, I wonder why. The answer is that the unconditional love and acceptance they offer rewards me. They depend on me, and in turn, I depend on them. In essence, we need each other. My "kudos" come from seeing them happy and healthy. That is all I need. They are my life and the rest of it will continue to be dedicated to them.

“Never believe that animals suffer less than humans. Pain is the same for them that it is for us. Even worse, because they cannot help themselves.”
— Dr. Louis J. Camuti (1893-1981)
